Why is Peacock named as the National Bird of India

Introduction:

In 1963, the Peacock was declared as the national bird of India. It's a symbol of grace, beauty, and elegance, and it's closely associated with Indian culture and mythology. The peacock also represents the arts and is often linked to the goddess Saraswati, who is the goddess of knowledge. It is also admired for its vibrant plumage, with the tail feathers displaying beautiful iridescent colors and eye-catching patterns.

The peacock is native to India:

The Indian peacock, with the scientific name Pavo cristatus, is native to South Asia, particularly India. Peacocks thrive in forests, grasslands, and human-inhabited areas such as farms and villages across much of India, from the Himalayas to the tropical south. Some key Indian states where peafowl populations are higher include Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Madhya Pradesh. Given the strong ties to Indian ecology and geography, the peacock serves as a recognizable symbol of the natural heritage of India.

Drawing Competition:

I personally have a strong attachment towards the peacock from August 2023. My son, who was four years old, drew a beautiful peacock for the drawing competition which was held in my apartment marking the 77th Independence Day celebrations. He won the first prize in the 4-5 age category.
